“Give it a try, it is easy
once you practice how to use it.” This is one of the thousands of comments people
tell you when they know that you have some difficulties using technological
devices. At the beginning, I got mad at
them, since I was learning about technology little by little. However, life
leads you to paths that you do not expect, and it has made me take a course
about technology. This dreadful, but
amazing course has made me not only cry,
but also feel satisfied with the innovative tools I have learned, since It
makes me feel motivated to use all this new knowledge in my English class. Let
us remember that we need to prepare our students for their future, so we need
to get updated in order to teach them how to manage these useful tools that
later in the future they can use and even improve.
After making an analysis of my doing in
technology, I have deduced that I am on stage three which is called Infusion. I am always use my computer to take
practices, videos, songs, etc. Besides, I also use all these multimedia
applications a long with telecommunications applications in order to boost the
motivation in the class. I have realized I am just in diapers in the efficient
use of the wide range of tools that already exist. I strongly believe that what
counts is personal willingness to continue learning in this amazing field. The
first step a person should do is to stop sitting on the fence and make the
decision of giving a step forward to continue improving his/ her abilities in
this field.
At this moment, technology is not my adversary anymore; it can boost the quality of my English class. I have already contacted a person who can continue teaching me the incredible tools present on the Web. After finishing my masters, I have two short terms goals: I need to continue advancing with my improvement of English and the second is to learn more about technology. Well, actually there is a strong motivation to do this, for my work is asking their teacher to be certified in these two fields, because this Institution strongly believe that the digital resources can promote the higher order thinking in a way students can feel comfortable with. So far, there are three striking tools that I learn to use in order to enhance the teaching-learning process. There tools are fotor, blogger and slideshare.

First of all, Fotor
website might be as a positive way to
engage students in their own learning process. Fotor is a photo editor to design collages of your
interest. Even though there are some frames you have to pay for, there are some
others that can be used for free. This is a user-friendly tools for the people
who want to use it. Students can use
this tool for their oral presentations. An important fact is that students learn
more if they see images that can make them remember the important ideas studied
in class. So, by creating a collage in class, either in groups or individually,
students are learning in a meaningful way. Besides, students can develop
certain soft skills if they work together in order to create a collage.
Another tool that I would
like to refer to is slideshare. This is a tool
to embed works in other sites. As the fotor tool, this is a useful way
to make the English class catchier and entertaining for the students. For
instance, if you have a blog, you can upload material from other parts of the
web in it; in this way, it can be shared by not only students but also
colleagues. In addition, students can create their own works and share them
with the teacher and among themselves in order to share their knowledge by
having fun.
Finally, another attractive
tool that can be used in my class is the blogger. This is a platform in which
people can publish their works for free. As the other two, it has been designed
to be user-friendly. However, users have
to be a little more skillful in their use because he/ she can embed material
from other sources. For instance, the writer can embed email, video, photos, or
articles. This feature makes blogger an
incredible tool to use in the teacher-learning process because it allows the
participants of the process to be more creative, more engaged and more
competent in the use of technology. To
make it happen, users need to know about HTML. This is the code language that
most websites use. HTML is used to
create pages and make them function; therefore, without the use of this
language, the works in blogger could not be as amazing as possible. HTML makes
works more beautiful, and appealing for the reader’s eyes. In this way,
students will feel encouraged to read and to create their own works in their
own blogs.
In conclusion, I urge all
those teachers who are not familiar with these three tools to implement them in
class. The process of incorporating technology in class is slowly. The teacher
has to constantly practice how to the
use of these tools before he/she takes them to class, because in this
way, he/she will become the supporter for the students. By using these tools in the class, the quality
and the level of professionalism will rise making you feel satisfied of the
good work done.

All teachers and students should have access to the Internet during EFL classes. This will indeed improve the students’ performance and access to resources and strategies in their process of language acquisition. There are countless tools available to be used while teaching and learning, although somehow in Latin America, we have to bridge the technological gap. The access to full Internet coverage is still out of reach for many communities and their schools.
ResponderEliminarSilvina & Patricia, let us all hope that technology can become more and more present in EFL classrooms. In the end, if teachers are not into using them in the classroom, access to tech tools for learning becomes irrelevant in the studying lives of our learners.
EliminarPatricia, it is great to know that technology is not your "rival" in class anymore. How far can we all get with a bit of tech tools in the classroom for the learning of our students? We all can get far and learners will become more motivated in their own learning by doing things "a bit differently." What do you think?
